   This is the first in a series of detective novels featuring Spencer Hale. He has a small office above a pawn shop in Minneapolis Minnesota. He smokes and drinks too much but has a reputatuationstion for solving impossible situations. He uses logic, recognition and control and a sharp sense of moral conviction and fair play.

   In the first case Spencer has a case of supernatural elements that can't be explained away. Spencer can see through the crazy overtones into the fabric and tone of reality again the forces of unimagined conspiracy.

   Elizabeth Frawley hires Spencer to find an old lover, Spencer realizes the case defies ordinary explanation. This noval has the tone of the x-files with the feel of a classic noir detective story.
